Information Webinar - ASCA Taskforce 1: U4SSC Alignment for Smart Communities

ASCA recently hosted an information webinar introducing Taskforce 1, a flagship 2026–27 program translating the UN's U4SSC smart city framework into practical, Australian-localised guidance for local government.

Designed for practitioners working in smart cities, digital infrastructure and local government innovation, the session provided an overview of the program, its workstreams and opportunities for participation in the development of nationally relevant best practice.

Across six sessions from July 2026 to January 2027, Taskforce 1 will deliver four key outputs:

  • An Australian KPI register aligned to all 91 U4SSC indicators

  • A practitioner guide linking good practice to those KPIs

  • A smart community maturity framework

  • A feasibility assessment for an Australian assurance pathway

The webinar featured presentations from Peter Runcie and James Sankar, with facilitation by Dr Nathaniel Bavinton. Attendees learned more about the program's objectives, expected commitments and how the taskforce will support the localisation of the UN framework for the Australian context.
