Election Platform

The Australian Smart Communities Association (ASCA) has now launched its 2022 Federal Election Platform.

Australia continues to advance the development of the smart community space. Now, over 100 Local Governments have established smart community frameworks, and approximately 1 in 5 other Local Government are in the process of delivering a dedicated smart program. However, due to the limited funding, and lack of strategic direction at a national level, smart community developments continue to sit
at a local level.

The Federal Election Platform aims to elevate the discussion of smart communities to a national level and fast-track Australia’s smart community agenda. Australia is full of diverse and vibrant communities waiting to harness smart solutions which will see increased economic development, sustainability, digital capacity, and social outcomes.

The Platform was developed in partnership between the ASCA Board, members and keys stakeholders to propose a 3-year Federal Government led package to accelerate the adoption of technology, data, and innovation.

ASCA wishes to thank all the participants who actively shaped this Election Platform, from across Australia.

The policy focus areas include:

  • Developing a Roadmap and Funding for Scalable Smart Infrastructure

  • Improving Delivery of Digital Skills and STEM

  • Increasing Funding for Climate Innovation and Partnerships

  • Scaling up Connectivity and Innovation across Regions

Over the coming weeks and months, ASCA and partners will use the Platform to advocate for these priorities with Federal Government Members and Candidates.

ASCA welcomes further discussions and policy conversations to mobilise these priorities into development.
