President's welcome to the Australian Smart Communities Conference
From ASCA President Brook Dixon
We have an outstanding program of smart community speakers. Councils, cities and governments from around Australian are joining us. Decision makers, leaders, innovators, and city builders are here. And a host of smart technology providers will be on exhibition. This will be an amazing smart city, and smart community event!
A special thank you to the Victorian and Australian Governments, and all our sponsors. Your support is invaluable - high quality events, delivered at great prices, are only possible because of your contribution.
Thank you as well to all our speakers. Those who will share their expertise and enthusiasm on the stage, many of whom have travelled long distances, to deliver an A-Grade event for our audience.
And of course, thank you to all those who have invested so much time and effort in planning, organising, promoting and delivering this event. Much respect and gratitude.
The Australian Government has now announced Round 2 of the Smart Cities and Suburbs Program. ASCA is very pleased to have the Australian Government as an official event partner, with representatives available during the Conference to talk about the program and how to apply. Make sure you find their Exhibition Stand, and have a chat about how to get involved.
Working with the Victorian Government, ASCA is proud to have committed to gender parity of speakers for this Conference, and prouder still to have achieved this objective. A better future for all, in terms of sustainability, liveability and productivity, but also opportunity, inclusion and diversity, is the essence of a smart community.
As many of you know, my partner and I welcomed a new baby girl last week - dear little Riley. With a new baby at home, I am not able to attend the Conference in person. ASCA's Vice President, Mr Daniel High, will be representing me, as will the rest of the ASCA Board. My colleagues will be moving around the Conference and hope to meet as many of you as possible.
I'd love you to share all your stories, pictures and highlights from the Conference online please use hashtag#SmartCommunitiesAU. Let's showcase Australia's smart city/community credentials and aspirations, and encourage new leaders and supporters to get involved.
Once again, welcome to the 2018 Australian Smart Communities Conference. I wish you new connections, deeper knowledge, and renewed momentum.
