Chatbot provides virtual tour of new Maroochydore CBD

Queensland’s new Maroochydore CBD is the first city in the world to use Facebook Messenger to host a virtual tour guide, exposing the Sunshine Coast hub to up to 900 million internet users every month.

Maroochydore CBD’s entrepreneur-in-residence Zach Johnson said this marked the first time Facebook Messenger had been used to communicate with residents, visitors and business people about a new city.

Sunshine Coast hands Summit baton to Adelaide

Adelaide has been selected to host the 2017 Australian Smart Communities Summit which will bring together national and international leaders at the forefront of smart community technologies.

Australian Smart Communities Association (ASCA) President Michael Whereat said the Summit was a standout opportunity for smart communities, local government authorities, suppliers and service providers to connect and discuss how Australians could live happier, healthier and safer through the application of smart technologies.

Smart Centre highlights latest technologies for Sunshine Coast

Sunshine Coast residents can now see how the latest smart city technologies work at Sunshine Coast Council's Smart Centre in Caloundra which showcases real-time results of technology council is trialling.

Council is using Caloundra as a ‘Living Lab’ to test these technologies before installing them across the region to help determine which ones are most suitable and cost effective to install.

2017 Summit host opportunity available

The Australian Smart Communities Association is seeking a destination partner who is keen to host the next Summit in its community in March/April 2017.

Local government bodies working with their RTO or LTO and venues are encouraged to bid to host the next ASCA Summit. Creative and partnership bids are likely to the strongest, so venues, destinations and government organisations should consider collaborating and putting in a partnership bid.
